Privacy Policy
Last updated: 30 May 2026
Classy Representative is a simple tool that helps a class representative mark students present or absent and copy a formatted list to share. This policy applies to the web app and to our iOS and Android apps. It explains, in plain language, what data we handle and why.
What we collect
- Your account. The email address you use to sign up. If you create an account with email and password, the password is never stored in plain text — it is kept only as a one-way hash.
- Sign in with Google or Apple. If you choose to sign in with Google or Apple, we receive a verified email address and a unique account identifier from that provider to create or log in to your account. Accounts created this way have no password.
- The data you enter. The classes you create (class names), your student rosters (enrolment numbers and names), and the attendance marks you record (present / absent).
- Diagnostics. In our mobile apps, if the app crashes we collect a crash report through Sentry (including basic device and operating-system information) so we can find and fix the problem. This is not linked to advertising.
Why we collect it
We use this data only to provide the attendance tool itself: so you can sign in, keep your classes and rosters between sessions, mark students present or absent, and copy or share the resulting lists. That's it.
Where it's stored
Your data is stored in a hosted PostgreSQL database provided by Neon. It is associated with your account and is not visible to other users.
AI processing
Some features are powered by AI. When you use the AI attendance feature (marking students with a natural-language instruction) or the sample-data feature, the relevant roster and your instruction text are sent to a third-party AI provider, Groq, to compute the result. These requests are made only when you choose to use those features. We do not sell this data, and we do not use it for advertising.
Service providers we use
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers. We rely on a small number of service providers, each only to deliver a specific part of the app:
- Neon — hosts the database where your account and class data are stored.
- Groq — processes the AI attendance and sample-data features, as described above.
- Resend — delivers transactional email (your sign-up verification code and password-reset links).
- Sentry — receives crash reports from our mobile apps so we can diagnose and fix errors.
- Google and Apple — verify your identity if you choose to sign in with them.
Deleting your account and data
You can permanently delete your account and all data associated with it at any time. In our mobile apps, open the Me tab → Delete account. Deleting your account cascades to all of your classes, student rosters, and attendance records — they are removed for good. If you signed up on the web, or need help deleting your account, email us at the address below and we will remove it for you.
